Trying to earn revenue off of domains is not an easy thing to do. Many people buy brand new domains and think that just because it sounds like a good name or has some good keywords in it that it will earn them money. Unfortunately this is usually not the case. Like any other way to make money, this is going to require patience and hard work.
There are a few guidelines to follow when looking for ways to make money from domain parking. Obviously in order to make money you need to get people to visit your domains. How do you plan on doing so if there is no website for people to take interest in and no content for search engines to crawl? The most successful parked domains will always be the ones with history. Domains that used to have a website and already have a steady source of traffic will be most profitable. I’m sure you’re wondering how you acquire names like these so here are a few things that have worked well for me.
- Always keep an eye out. Where ever you go and where ever you look there is always a new website waiting to be discovered. Go there, look at the website, sometimes you get lucky and the domain is expired, canceled or sometimes was never even registered! This is a prime opportunity. If the domain is in the process of expiring, you won’t be able to register it but don’t give up now, get a backorder or domain alert this is an affordable and time saving solution.
- Business owners usually don’t understand the potential of a domain that was used for a business that has since closed, been renamed or refocused. If you can find a business that is closing its doors, keep a watchful eye on their domain name, this could be a big opportunity.
- Click around. When people or websites post links, click them (unless they seem harmful obviously)! Sometimes you get lucky.
- If you have websites of your own which you no longer need or wish to operate, park it! As long as it ends up generating enough traffic and clicks to pay for itself there is no reason not to!
Once you have the domains, how you manage them is important. There are plenty of tools out there for domain parking, two of our best recommendations are AdSense by Google and GoDaddy’s Cash Parking. The major difference is the price. Google’s AdSense is FREE! GoDaddy’s isn’t. Which the GoDaddy Cash Parking tool has some nice additional features that Google doesn’t offer, I don’t believe it’s worth it.
