CMS: Content Management System

A Content Management System is software that is implemented into a website in order to make editing a website easier (while this is the intention, some CMS will actually make life more difficult). Popular content management systems include Joomla, Drupal, Contribute and WebEditPro. While they all have their pros and cons, we recommend staying away from the all together.

Database

A database is a structured collection of records or data that is stored in a computer system or web server. Common database types include MySQL and Access.

Head Tags

Head tags are defined as any file inclusion or scripting in between the >head< >/head< tags of your website.

HTML

Hypertext Mark-up Language, is the general markup language for web pages.

Image Replacement

Image replacement is a HTML & CSS coding trick used to make up for the lack of readable text in an image. This is accomplished by putting the text inside of the containing element with an image reference in the CSS. The text is then hidden by positioning it off the page. See an example in our build page.

PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

PHP is a web page scripting language generally used for dynamic web pages with some sort of database interaction.

SSI: Server Side Includes

A Server Side Include is a file that is created to simplify website editing. They are used for repeated sections on a website and can be used just about anywhere. In order to support SSI's, you must save your files as .shtml files. Other languages such as PHP can also support these file inclusions.
